At a minimum, donors would be outraged, and donations would abruptly halt. Those who had previously supported such an organization would take pains to distance themselves from it, and the public image of the organization would take a beating from which it might never recover. We can be fairly confident that all of this would happen…unless the organization involved was the Catholic Church.
According to The Age (Australia):
The Catholic Church has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal fees to defend priests and brothers who have already been tried and convicted of serious sexual assaults against children in their care.Christian Brothers, one of Australia's largest Catholic orders, confirmed "that the order had a broad policy of funding the defences of brothers charged in relation to child sex abuse."
Writing about the latest in a long series of atrocities committed by the Catholic Church, Cephus (Bitchspot) asks:
So how long does this continue? How long do Catholics keep giving money to this organization that openly defends pedophiles, even convicted pedophiles against prosecution? How long do Catholics keep supporting a church that uses it’s considerable political influence to get child molesters off the hook? How long do Catholics put up with a religion that keeps putting convicted sex offenders back into unrestricted and unmonitored contact with innocent children?I have been asking this very question for some time now, and I will continue to do so. How long do we enable this?
The price of continuing to support this institution is simply too high. It is time for people of conscience to leave the Catholic Church. As long as you remain a contributing member of this corrupt institution, you are enabling this sort of behavior to continue.
